Hwa Rang Kwan Tae Kwon Do is a traditional martial arts school located at 1201 Old County Road in Belmont, California. Founded by 9th Dan GrandMaster D.K. Shin in 1971, it is the oldest running martial arts school on the West Coast. The school is dedicated to teaching the philosophy of Taekwondo for life, focusing on principles beyond just fighting techniques. The name "Hwa Rang Kwan" comes from the Flowering Knights, an elite warrior group from the Silla kingdom in Korea during the 5th century. These warriors were known for their exceptional fighting skills, courage, and mental strength. They were also enlightened individuals, studying both Confucianism and Buddhism to develop their internal energy and fight with a refined spiritual purpose.
