Public Art "The Garden Gate"
Welcome to "The Garden Gate," a stunning public art installation located at 10839 Beverly Drive in Whittier, California. This unique three-piece cast bronze sculpture serves as a heartfelt tribute to the women of Whittier. Created by the talented sculptor Guy A. Wilson, the installation features a pair of double-sided high relief gate sculptures that beautifully flank a life-size sculpture of a small girl. Dedicated on October 9, 2004, "The Garden Gate" not only celebrates the vital contributions of Whittier's women but also invites reflection on themes of community, identity, and legacy. The backs of the two gate panels are adorned with extensive inscriptions, including "Women of Whittier," composed by Guy A. Wilson, and "People, Place and Meaning," whose composer remains unknown, alongside a dedication text. These inscriptions offer a deeper understanding of the sculpture's significance and the stories it seeks to honor.
