USC Loker Hydrocarbon Research Institute
The USC Loker Hydrocarbon Research Institute, located at 837 Bloom Walk in Los Angeles, California, was established in 1977 to focus on basic research and graduate education in the field of hydrocarbon chemistry. Thanks to a generous donation from Donald and Katherine Loker, the Institute was able to open its doors in 1979 with a state-of-the-art research facility. In 1984, the Institute was renamed the Donald P. and Katherine B. Loker Hydrocarbon Research Institute in honor of the Lokers. Under the leadership of George A. Olah and Sydney Benson, the Institute's initial mission was to conduct fundamental research in hydrocarbon chemistry. Over time, the research focus expanded to include energy storage and carbon dioxide capture and utilization. Today, the Institute is dedicated to finding sustainable solutions to mitigate global warming through innovative chemistry.
