Originally known as Thornton Gardens, the estate features a stunning Tudor Revival residence designed by renowned architect Myron Hunt in 1920 for Katherine Sinclair Emery, widow of wealthy Southern Californian Frank Whitney Emery. The 11,700-square-foot house boasts stucco walls, leaded-glass windows, brick chimneys, and ornate details throughout. The interior showcases oak paneling, intricate woodwork, and decorative plasterwork, reflecting traditional English design. The estate's landscape, designed by landscape architects Florence Yoch, Lucile Council, and Katherine Bashford, includes expansive lawns, a motor court, a terrace, and a reflecting pool with a rose garden. The property was once owned by Colonel J.G. Boswell and Ruth Chandler Williamson, daughter of Los Angeles Times publisher Harry Chandler.
