Dogs are allowed in campgrounds, paved areas, and on fire roads, making it a great destination for pet owners. Online reservations can be made 24/7, allowing visitors to plan their trip in advance. The park is currently undergoing a forest health project in collaboration with CAL FIRE and California State Parks to promote biodiversity, improve forest health, and reduce the risk of high-intensity fires. With over 4,000 acres of canyons and uplands, the park features 40 miles of hiking trails that wind through diverse ecosystems including oak woodland, wet riparian, and chaparral.

The park offers a variety of outdoor activities including fishing, boating, picnicking, kayaking, and hiking. Visitors can enjoy the stunning views of the lake and surrounding nature while engaging in these activities. The park has recently reopened on February 2, 2024, and will be closing on November 10, 2024, for the rest of the season. Boat rental availability is dependent on weather conditions, and boat inspections cannot be conducted under wet conditions. To ensure the best results on personal boats, they must be banded.
