Navy Memorial
The Navy Memorial, located on East Ocean Boulevard in Long Beach, California, is a popular tourist attraction that pays tribute to the men and women of the United States Navy. The centerpiece of the memorial is a striking sculpture of a sailor, created by sculptor Stanley Bleifeld using Petty Officer First Class Dan Maloney as a model. The sailor's sea bag bears the name and initials of Rear Admiral William Thompson, honoring his contributions to the creation of the Navy Memorial. Donated and installed in 2004 by the Fleet Reserve Association Branch 43, the Navy Memorial serves as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices and dedication of those who have served in the Navy.
