Established in 1992, the refuge manages habitat for local and migratory wildlife and also serves as a flood detention basin just outside of Sacramento. Visitors can enjoy a variety of recreational activities throughout the year, from nature walks to waterfowl hunting. The refuge offers educational opportunities, guided walks, and paddle tours to learn more about the diverse wildlife that call this area home. With over 200 species of birds and a variety of other wildlife, the refuge is a sanctuary for both residents and migratory species.
