Hellman Building
The Hellman Building, located in the heart of Downtown Los Angeles near 4th and Main streets, is a historic six-story structure with green terra cotta and classical décor. Constructed in 1902 by Alfred Rosenheim on the site of Herman W. Hellman's one-story cottage, the building is a prime example of early 20th-century commercial architecture. Designed with a steel frame construction for architectural quality and integrity, the Hellman Building was the largest steel frame building in Los Angeles at the time of its completion in 1904. In the 21st century, the Hellman Building has been converted into 104 loft units and 2 penthouses with ground-level retail space. The building is home to various businesses, including Kazunori Sushi, Big Man Bakes, a salon, and a deli/market. The Hellman Annex, constructed in 1914 and located at 410 S. Spring Street, is the final addition to the Hellman Building. This Beaux-Arts style structure features white terra cotta façade and elaborate architectural details on the upper floors. Live-work loft units occupy the upper floors, while the ground floor is designated for a full-service restaurant.
