Culturarts
Welcome to Culturarts, a unique store located at 685 Cannery Row in the heart of Monterey, California. Immerse yourself in the enchanting world of Alebrijes, mythical creatures that serve as spiritual guides in the afterlife. Each Alebrije is a masterpiece, forged in dreams and endowed with magical powers, regardless of its size. These vibrant, imaginative figures are not just art pieces but guardians of the spirit, crafted with love and tradition. Our collection at Culturarts draws from the rich heritage of Oaxaca, inspired by the visionary work of Mexico City artisan Pedro Linares. His legendary dream, experienced during a near-death state, introduced him to a fantastical realm filled with extraordinary beings. Upon awakening, Linares brought these creatures to life using colorful papier-mâché techniques, coining the term "alebrijes." This tradition has evolved as Oaxacan artisans embraced wood carving to create these stunning figures, each telling its own story.
