Established in 1974, this vibrant library serves as a cornerstone for community learning and cultural enrichment. Named in honor of Madame A C Bilbrew, a pioneering musician, poet, and community leader, the library stands as a testament to her legacy and contributions to the arts and civil rights. Designed by renowned African-American architect Vincent Proby, the A C Bilbrew Library is a spacious 21,000-square-foot facility that can house up to 100,000 books. It is home to the Black Resource Center, which offers valuable resources and support for research into the social, historical, musical, and cultural aspects of the Black experience. The library also hosts the esteemed "African-American Living Legend" Series, celebrating notable figures such as Rosa Parks and Ray Charles.
