Mill Valley Inn

"UPDATE: To my surprise I received an email from the hotel saying they wanted to make things better and would we like to come back on them. It was surprising because that was never my intention when I wrote the original review. Well we took them up on their offer this past week and it was wonderful! They went out of their way to leave a bottle of wine, some snacks, and a card and a birthday cake for my husband (I had mentioned that we would come back on his birthday.) Justin, the manager, went above and beyond to find us days that worked and he put us in a lovely room. It was an entirely different experience. We loved our stay! We enjoyed walking around the park filled with the giant redwoods, right near the inn. There is wine and cheese at the inn in the afternoons and breakfast in the morning. Though we had some rain it didn’t taint the trip at all, rather it made it more lovely. We will be back! If you want to experience being in a quaint hotel amongst the redwoods in a darling small town, this is your place! You can travel to San Fran easily as it is just a short drive away or visit the other communities near Mill Valley. Or just relax and explore Mill Valley! Booked a more expensive room with a balcony because the photo showed a view of trees. We arrived to a tiny room right up against the elevator with a view of the street. The woman at the office kept saying well you booked online. I mean they have a website which I went to and booked online in advance of our trip. I did not understand what that had to do with her reasoning. I book all my travel online. I went directly to their website. Definitely not worth the price and we were staying three days. I would suggest to keep looking. There are much more charming hotels than this."

"Hands down the best hotel we have had in years, of any price range. The happy hour, the room decor and perks, and the breakfast in particular reminded me of how luxury hotels used to be. No powdered eggs and stale breads, it was a robust breakfast with great quality. The beds were very comfortable and the room very clean. Toiletries were higher quality than you normally see in most chain hotels. We called the hotel directly to set up a room (as a frequent traveler, beware of online bookings and whether a hotel is really booked or not.) The staff were so helpful getting things arranged for us. Cannot recommend this place enough, and with such a walkable and convenient location we will be returning."

"We were lucky enough to get one of the creek cottage rooms that overlooked a small creek that ran through the property surrounded by red wood trees. The room came little patio area that enabled us to make acquaintances with a doe and fawn who had made their way into the tree lined space. The bed was very comfortable, room decorated beautifully, and the spacious bathroom had a large vanity, soaking tub, and shower. We didn't make it to breakfast or the wine/cheese tasting due to our schedule but saw many other patrons making their way into the lounge area that morning. The location is perfect and is a quick walk to many of the cute shops, restaurants, and bars in the area. It's also a very short drive to Muir Woods."

"A great little place to stay! The staff was extremely helpful! They were able to provide us alternate directions into Muir Woods which helped avoid super narrow roads, and printed our parking pass for us. Provided us with great ideas of restaurants to checkout while we were in town. The complimentary breakfast was tasty and we enjoyed a complimentary wine & cheese tasting they did each evening. Rooms were comfortable & clean (we stayed in the creek house) and a great location to walk around town. Would absolutely stay again should we ever come back!"

"We stayed in one of the creek cottages, which was very private and cozy. The furniture and decor are well appointed and tasteful. The fireplace is a nice touch. The location is perfect and very walkable. The staff were all very friendly and professional. Keep in mind this is a smaller property therefore at times there may only be one staff member on site. We did have an issue at checkin but the staff and manager were very responsive; the service recovery was on par with the quality of the property. The included breakfast had a nice variety. They also offer a complimentary evening wine social. There isn't a spa on site however they do have a partnership with a local masseuse who can come to your room for a private massage. Mill Valley Inn makes for a lovely relaxing getaway. Overall we were very happy with our stay and will stay again when next in the area."
