"You need a reservation don't walk in like a CHUMP. I can not believe the haters writing those three stars reviews. Are you kidding me? This is a legit izakaya in Point Arena. Its not buffet dinner for xl's at the food court in the mall. I've eaten at plenty of izakayas all over the US and gama compares favorably in terms of price, portion size and actual quality to any izakaya in la or sf. If you are in Point Arena or Sea Ranch or, I don't know... Elk? Is that a place? Gama is a must."

"This was the only place open after 9 pm in Point Arena. I personally loved the service and the atmosphere- it was excellent. I’m a lacto vegetarian, so I had very limited choices. We tried the asparagus tempura, miso soup and some shitake mushroom with lemon and salt. Most of the options had some form of meat fat. We loved the asparagus tempura. However, the miso soup and the appetizers were barely filling and quite disappointing in terms of taste and flavor. We asked for some kind of spicy or chilli sauce and the chef was kind enough to prepare a very small quantity of daikon paste that tasted really good, but was too small to make a difference in our dishes. They were also kind enough to prepare us another round of asparagus tempura when the kitchen was about to close. The skewer had exactly two mushroom heads with lemon and salt for 10$ and was barely filling. The service and the atmosphere was excellent. We ended up paying a lot for a meal that left us half empty because we couldn’t get anything substantial to eat here."

"Ambience and service are really great here, but food is pretty bland to be honest. The restaurant is maintained really well and everything feels “brand new” here. The waitress were very understanding/receptive to our dietary restrictions (vegetarian friendly). But the food was lacking to be honest. Asparagus tempura was very tasty, it lacked spice though. Japanese Mountain Potato was bland (but unique!), so when we requested for something spicy, I was surprised by the fact that they don’t even offer chili oil/chili sauce. Miso soup and rice tasted fine as well, but pretty bland."

"Gorgeous space, wonderful service and excellent food. I dined here multiple times while staying in Point Arena, and it was truly an exceptional experience. The space is warm and inviting, and the live edge wood bar and tables are gorgeous. You can make a reservation for the dining room, but they keep the bar available for walk-ins. The service was attentive and efficient, especially from co-owner Elyse, whose passion and knowledge made the experience. The beer and sake menu is impressive and well-curated, I enjoyed all of the selections recommended to me. They also have several local wines on the menu for those that prefer it. The menu rotates seasonally based on availability from local farms and purveyors, and everything was fresh and perfectly seasoned. All the dishes are shareable small plates, and the portions are perfect if dining alone or for ordering to share with a group. My favorites were the “addictive” cabbage (it really was!) and the karaage fried chicken (it’s not to be missed!). If you’re in the area, Gama is a must try!"
