"If you need to assess or address any injuries or pain stop reading and message Derek. If you want to know why, read on. Derek has been the only physical therapist able to address the chronic upper back issues I’ve been dealing with for over a decade. I’ve seen a number of physios, PTs, and sports medicine professionals who gave me generic approaches that never made any lasting change and took me away from the activities I loved doing. From the beginning, Derek listened to my goals and made sure my recovery program matched what I liked to do, what I wanted to be able to do, and the specific injury I was dealing with. Rather than band exercises and stretching (unsuccessful in the past) he actually had me under a barbell/on machines as my road to recovery. Through a series of progressions, correction exercises, and cues I was able to get back to the movements and workouts I wanted while maintaining strength and fitness along the way. Finally, Derek has been able to help me cater my programming to make space for other activities I enjoy, and never pushed a specific approach on me. He’s super friendly, super knowledgeable, and has helped me get control over my pain."

He has excellent problem-solving skills, provides creative solutions, bases programming and treatment on current research, and is genuinely fun to work with. After experiencing an array of fairly frustrating traumatic injuries, I had a challenging time finding a provider that took the time to understand my typical level of activity and what it realistically looked like to return to arduous work as a wildland firefighter. Dr. Miles provided rad programming and simple though head-opening solutions to the holes in my endurance-heavy training. Through the use of his thoughtful programming and coaching, I feel like I have greater and more varied overall fitness and athleticism, I move more efficiently, and have increased self-reliance in lifting heavy stuff on a barbell and putting it back down.
