"Very helpful circulation staff :)"
"The inner decorum of this library resembles that of a 90s sitcom. Some may view this as a deterrent, as nothing more than wasted space; the final stage of a collapsed ecosystem, fervently anticipating a renovation. Some may never step foot in King for its interior does not fulfill their minimalist, modernist idea of what a library should look like. However, King Library, with all it's color-mismatch-glory, it's funky (and musty) cafe, its half-lit, backroom-esque, downright terrifying bathrooms adorned with teal tile, has a strange way of winning over the hearts of true Miami goers. Because King turns away conventionalists, its the perfect sanctuary to study in. Its beauty lies in the time-bending ability, transporting an average library enthusiast into the multicolored, bubbly college experience set in a time period before the Tesla Cybertruck roamed the earth."
"Visited on a snowy, cold Saturday morning at 8 am and was the only visitor in the building. This is not a research library as 3 of the 4 floors have been repurposed for classrooms and “informal gathering/seating areas.” There are a number of quiet study rooms and areas with study carrels so you can get some work done. Only one floor still has book stacks/shelves which reveals the functional reality of the building. It’s for studying and for students gathering, not for locating texts and materials with a depth and breadth that rises to the level of a R1 research library. This reality of modern library use always makes me sad. Feels akin to using the Sistine Chapel as a coffee shop. If it were teaming with students, I wonder how loud it would get. Regardless, if you’re bringing your own laptop and own research books and materials then you will likely get your work done. Cafeteria style restaurant in the basement, which is only open during peak student hours. Plan on bringing your own if otherwise."
"Please keep hours updated. Incorrect on website"
"A lot of problems. They only have one microfiche machine and no sign up sheet so researches are always competing for it. It took me two weeks to have access to the microfiche machine because another scholar was always using it. Because the library doesn't have enough research to go around they also have a recall system where students/professors basically can take books away from those who have already checked them out. The library also tends to lose books a lot and the employees sometimes forget to check the books back in when you return them. Sometimes if you are lucky, you will find the book you just returned back on the shelf and can prove that you turned it in. But if you can't find where they shelved the book, they will charge you for it. I recently received a survey from Miami where they asked how much the university compares to an Ivy League school. Research wise they don't even come close. If the university wants to raise their reputation then they need to stop spending money on buildings and they need to spend money on the library instead."
