Nestled in the charming community of Spencerville, Ohio, Hartford Independent Baptist Church stands as a beacon of faith and history. Located at 300 Defiance Trail North, our church is not just a place of worship, but a living testament to the rich heritage of our region.

Founded in 1835 during America's westward expansion, our church traces its roots back to the era of William Moorman, a dedicated circuit-riding preacher. Originally established as Hartford Christian Church, our congregation emerged alongside the trading post known as Hartford. Though the trading post was eventually abandoned due to the canal's final location, the spirit of Hartford lives on through our church, the last standing remnant of that almost forgotten time.

Our historic building, constructed in 1901 near an apple orchard planted by the legendary Johnny Appleseed, invites you to step back in time. The old church bell, cast in 1903, still rings, calling the community to gather in faith and fellowship.
