Forrest Woods Nature Preserve

Located at Township Highway T-192, this 393-acre preserve is the largest owned by The Conservancy and serves as a vital remnant of the historic Great Black Swamp. This remarkable site is a sanctuary for 39 rare, threatened, and endangered species of plants and animals, offering a unique glimpse into the region's natural heritage.

Since 2016, our dedicated team has undertaken significant stream and wetland restoration projects at Forrest Woods, revitalizing 145 acres of natural habitat. We've transformed nearly a mile of agricultural ditches back into thriving streams, enhancing the ecological balance of this precious landscape.

Visitors can explore the preserve's diverse ecosystems and witness the ongoing transformation through our Chronolog time-lapse project, which captures the development of a wetland restoration completed in 2021.
