We are excited to announce a transformative project aimed at enhancing connectivity and accessibility in our town. This initiative will create a network of complete streets, linking downtown Pembroke to the University of North Carolina at Pembroke (UNCP) to the west and the headquarters of the Lumbee Tribe to the east. The project includes the installation of dedicated two-way left turn lanes on NC Highway 711 and approximately 12,400 linear feet of bike and pedestrian pathways.

Street improvements in the historic downtown will encompass the replacement of deteriorated infrastructure, relocation of overhead utility lines, and the installation of lighting and landscaping enhancements, crosswalks, ramps, bike lanes, and new sidewalks. Component 1 will focus on the bike and pedestrian connection to UNCP, downtown streetscape improvements, wayfinding, Main Street stormwater improvements, and downtown technological advancements. Component 2 will include sidewalk improvements from Jones Street to the Lumbee Tribe Governmental Complex.
