Reviews of NMB Nature Trail
"Went for a bike ride! Beautiful trails!! Wood chip section can be a bit challenging for casual bike ride, but makes for a great workout!"
"There is very little nature or anything natural on this disappointing trudge. If you enjoy the sound of chain saws felling trees, walking past suburban back yards, chain link fences, incredibly vague, missing, and misleading path markers, and an absolutely darling waste treatment plant, this hike is for you! Cordoned off areas with enticing elevated wooden paths leading to interior areas. I suspect it's now a toxic waste dump, which is why the wildlife is now extinct...or have left for more hospitable areas long ago. Nothing wants to live here by choice. Bring a trash bag to pick up plastic detritus left by inconsiderate dolts, if you're looking for some redeeming reason to go. We are experienced hikers and twice we wondered where the heck we were, consulted the map on the website, and still were left scratching our heads. Fortunately we ran into a fellow who assured us we were still where we "wanted" to be. And that the gold trail was still down the paved road, around the corner, couldn't be seen from the blue trail, you had to know it was there (somehow), and that unless you were in the know, you'd probably not find it given the information provided at the trailhead. Trail is flat. Very flat. Dull. Varying materials. Bark mulch laid over uneven ground is not a good material for man or beast."
"Nice 2.5 mile trail near the NMB Parks. If you go to the left when entering, you will have a nice approximately mile long walk until you get to the Road/Treatment Plant location. This section is well shaded with a fairly nice soft path. This is a good place to turn around if you want to miss the treatment plant. If you continue you will skirt the side of the treatment facility (which can be quite stinky some days). Then you will re-enter a wide roadway/trail that will skirt behind some residences. There are some benches on the trails. I recommend bug spray & water. The small mosquitoes aren't bad but can be annoying. The walk is level, and the trails are well maintained."
"This trail, as well and the land that the water treatment plant, is surrounded by what used to be the Peter Horry Wildlife Preserve before being sectioned off to private owners and the treatment plant. There still might be the old brown sign for it off hwy 90. It’s good to see that most of it, although now “private property”, is still being preserved as it should be. Stick to the trail and don’t venture off as you’ll be trespassing on private property. There’s still plenty of sights to see on the trail! Definitely consider walking the gold trail too!"
