Downtown Discovery Garden

"What an amazing garden! Worth visiting. Cared for by volunteers who truly know what they are doing. Beautiful plant, flowers and tons of Vegetables grown for the benefit of others. Truly a labor of love. Educational and good for all ages. There is a scavenger hunt that is fun for kids and a picnic area in the shade. So happy we were directed to visit by a thoughtful friend."

"Well-labeled and always changing flora makes this a "must see" in downtown Hayesville. It's amazing that this garden is the creation of dozens of Clay County Master Gardener Volunteers. While you relax and enjoy the beauty, you can sit for a while in the outdoor classroom that is always shady and it gets a good breeze. It's a good place for a picnic, too."

"The DISCOVERY GARDEN in downtown Hayesville, NC is a hidden gem in Western NC. Although small in size, it equals larger botanical gardens I've toured in many states. There is a variety of native plants, a monarch butterfly waystation, vegetable beds, and pollinator beds to compliment the towns designation as a Bee City. A variety of scents and color from lush flowers during spring and summer encourage strolling. Hidden themes to be explored, new signage and a lovely gazebo and bench to sit and enjoy the mountain views. You will not be disappointed, and you just may see Master Gardeners there who maintain the beds and donate vegetables to local food banks. Paula Walters"

"Hours are sunup to sundown. Taking a stroll is lovely, hearing and seeing birds and insects and seeing flowers and vegetables growing. The plants are labeled with scientific and common names and color depictions. It's a peaceful and pretty place. As a volunteer I enjoy working here with fellow Master Gardeners.
