"I enjoyed my visit to Fires Creek Baptist Church. The ringing of a church bell at 11 a.m. signifies the start of service. It’s a small, country sanctuary with hymnals instead of screens, and the service was well-attended. Unlike most churches I’ve visited, the service here started with preaching and concluded with two hymns. Two men preached. I think the first was the pastor and the second was an elder. Both spoke about the struggles they dealt with in their own life and both were passionate about how the Lord had saved them. They set aside a time for the congregation to speak as well to share testimonies or prayer requests, and then invited everyone to the front for a prayer circle near the end. The church felt like a close, small-knit, and welcoming community. Afterwards, they celebrated a birthday and invited me to join them for a covered-dish luncheon in the adjacent fellowship hall. I was invited multiple times by various folks to return and join them again."
