If you place items that are of value, both monetarily and sentimentally, and trust that they will be safe, with an onsite manager, do not rent from here. My husband rented a unit on 12/29/21 from Gary at Volunteer Storage. I’d never been there since it was “guy stuff” that he used for storage. Nine days after my husband died last year, I went to the unit, asked for help from Gary in how to open it (with pressing your foot on the base of the door) to enable the lock to slide to remove the padlock). I opened it up, and took pictures of what all he had put there. It was way too soon after his death and was so overwhelming. I pulled down the door, locked it back up and left. Fast forward one year. I finally decided it’s time to start clearing it out, and stop paying $140 a month. I wanted to see what I could fit into my SUV, and make an effort to gradually get it emptied. When I opened the door, I was stunned. What was neatly and methodically placed there by my husband, was in disarray, and the two high dollar items that were in there were gone. So, I go to Gary, the onsite manager’s office, tell him what happened and his first words were “who else has a key to it?” I told him no one. I put the key in my cup holder that day I was originally there, and it has been there ever since. Five more times he asked me the same question, “who else has a key to it?” Asked and answered. He pulled something up on his computer and said that the unit showed it was accessed the date I was there in 2023 and another time one month after I was there the first time. That log in time was 5:25 PM and departure time was 5:45 PM. Since it was after hours, they would have needed to know the gate access code to enter. (I was still working then and would never be there at that hour). As we were walking back to his office, he asked me if I had filed a police report. I was with him the entire time! So, he agrees to do it and calls from his office phone to report the ‘break in’. Two sheriff deputies arrived soon afterwards to make the report. While waiting in his office for the officers to arrive, he said nothing, wouldn’t look at me, sorry this happened, nada. When the officers arrived, he stayed in his office as I walked them to the unit. The lock was perfect, no damage whatsoever. The two very large high dollar items stolen was upsetting enough, since I had a buyer for the costly compressor, but the fact they messed with my husband’s things, made me even me more upset. I showed the pictures of that day that I took of the unit when I went last year. After a year, there was no video footage. I had absolutely no recourse whatsoever. Since 12/29/21, when my husband signed the agreement, and after 4 price increases, I was currently paying $140 a month, completely unknown to me, for a storage space that had been stolen from and left in complete disorder. The pressure washer was a gas-powered Troy Bilt and the brand of compressor was Speedaire. To have the “washed my hands” attitude about the missing items when we’ve/I’ve paid faithfully every month for what I believed to be a safe place, is appalling to say the least. That whoever “they“ are, disrespected and violated what my husband worked so hard on, took what they wanted and left the rest of the unit in disarray. There was no “I’m sorry this happened, let me see what I can find out" and he was no help whatsoever. The behavior of the manager as well as his reaction was very obvious. I can’t prove it and the frustration is maddening, not to mention the violation of my husband’s things. That hurts more than the thievery itself. This was a complete invasion of our privacy and to take only the high end items without remorse, regard or respect for taking what was ours and NOT yours, is shameful. Cindy March Mack"

Volunteer Storage was perfect, well-located, and provided easy access. Everything was clean and well-maintained. Management was gracious, patient and helpful in every way. Payment was reasonable, simple and efficient. Exceptional experience. Will highly recommend to others and will use their service again when needed."

"Love using Google Maps. The exception is when Google maps brings you through neighborhoods. Driving in unfamiliar areas I rely on Google maps. Yesterday while trying to find RV storage in our RV Google maps brought us down narrow winding roads through neighborhoods. I can't seem to find a way to avoid this in settings."

"I have had stuff in a storage unit for years here. It originally was Mountain View Storage run by a delightful man named Jack. He lived on premises, was always there to talk to when you dropped off your payment, and had the security set up very well. Sadly there came the time for Jack to retire and in came Volunteer Storage. It should have been a clue when I gave them a check for 2 months rent and the next month I received a letter saying I had not paid my rent. I had to call them to inform them I had included two months rent and they found the error. Can you say incompetence? Well, I went out there a few weeks ago to check on my stuff. There was a lock I did not recognize on the unit. I called and left them a message that I was concerned and was it possible to set up an appointment to have the lock cut off the unit? Absolutely no response. And to add to the first reviewer-the office hours on the gate state 9-5 Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. When I called the recording states 10-4. Hello? I work M-F 9-6. No Saturday hours at all and obviously you can't get a response from a phone call. Very poor customer service. Which brings me to today. I went out with a hacksaw to cut the lock off. And when I opened the door my fear was confirmed. Someone had stolen all of my stuff. Granted a lot of it was stuff I don't need but I had some collectibles and a nice set of dishes I was hoping to use. So who knows how long ago that happened. The lock that was not mine was rusted. How many hundreds of dollars had I wasted paying them to keep my stuff safe and it wasn't even in there? Sure, maybe I shouldn't have faith that this type of thing wouldn't happen. But I'm sure it would never have happened when Jack was there. I am part furious and half upset right now. It's not worth pursuing any compensation but I definitely recommend buying your own shed to put your stuff in. Even unlocked it is probably safer."
