"Love the cute library cat and the children’s section is awesome!"
"We have been attending story hour at the library on Wednesday mornings. We did the summer session and are now finishing out the winter session. It is free, and it is such a great time for kids. My 4 year old loves coming to listen to stories, to dance to silly songs, and to do a neat craft! Miss Tammy is wonderful with the kids, and she is very kind and funny! We very much enjoy being here. Thank you for doing this!!"
"I tried for years to get a library card but we lived within city limits but because we didn’t live in Brazil city we had to pay- which just gripped the dickens out of me since it says “Brazil Public Library” not “Brazil City Library”! We paid the same taxes that the city folk paid! We moved to a house in town and I finally have a card. I have to agree with the comments that the “director” is rude. She’s been in that position unfortunately for a long time and has always been rude! It’s a shame since as a child that library was magical. I still remember that smell and hearing the church bells next door with the doors open in the fall. The same lady worked there for years. Seems like it was Joanne ???She was very sweet and the experience was pleasant. As to the cat! I’m an animal lover but I don’t think that’s place for them. It’s criminal if it’s tearing up books and that beautiful woodwork and floors. I’m so very allergic to cats, I can’t breath and my eyes swell. Lady’s for days even with a shot. To touch anything that the cats touched or have the fur be in the air would be like a skull and crossbones. She must be like the tenure teachers…nobody could ever get them out. It’s a shame that one person can ruin it for an entire town!"
"I love this library. The staff is friendly and helpful, and there are events such as book sales and summer reading programs for both children and adults. There's also a good selection of books and movies, and a wonderful free app that can be used to find books and other media within the Evergreen catalog throughout Indiana and have it sent to the library for you to pick up. Last but not least, Carnegie the library cat is a sweetheart. I highly recommend this library."
"Most of the positive reviews here are posted by friends and family members of the volunteers and "The Director" of the library. I agree with other reviewers in stating that the librarian on duty, who identifies herself as "The Director" is exceedingly rude. For some reason she thinks she can be borderline abusive to library patrons and that this is okay. Anyway, most of the good aspects of the Brazil Library have fallen by the wayside over the years. Fax service here, even if you do manage to get a library card (which is extremely difficult, even for Brazil residents) will cost you about three dollars, which is triple the amount Kroger down the street will charge you for the exact same service (and they're a multi-billion dollar company you are NOT already paying tax dollars to). Should you want to rent a movie from the library's rather small selection of videos, that will also cost you dearly at a dollar per video (same price you're gonna pay at Redbox and actually more than what you'll pay for the same old school videos you'll find at Family Video (they only charge .50 cents). If you're allergic to cats, that's also too bad, because The Director has decided that it's her personal library, even though it's called the Brazil Public Library, and she allows her cat to roam the halls. So it's a pretty interesting sight as you go in and see children coughing and sneezing and adult patrons grabbing a book and freaking out when the cat hisses at them from a nearby corner. You can't have water or pop or anything else in the library, but the cat is allowed to sharpen its claws on the books. It's all pretty ridiculous. And if you're thinking about sending your kid here to read or study, just forget it because all the library staff are in there gossiping loudly about patrons, making it very hard to concentrate."
