About the Mossy Point
Welcome to Mossy Point: A Nature Lover's Paradise
Nestled in the heart of Bloomingdale, Indiana, Mossy Point is a serene and ecologically diverse park that promises an unforgettable experience for nature enthusiasts. Located at 39 854454, Bloomingdale, Indiana 47832, this hidden gem offers a unique blend of high ridges, sandy ravines, and breathtaking views of the ever-charming Sugar Creek.
Established as a State Nature Preserve in 2005, Mossy Point is a testament to the dedication and hard work of The Nature Conservancy and its partners, who have protected and nurtured this land since 1976. Spanning nearly a mile along Sugar Creek, the preserve is home to a rich riparian habitat that supports a variety of edge-sensitive forest interior species, thanks to its unbroken forest canopy.
Managed by the Central Indiana Land Trust, Inc., with support from the Indiana Heritage Trust, Sycamore Trails Resources Conservation and Development Council, and The Lilly Co. Employee Fund, Mossy Point is a model of ecological stewardship. The Department of Natural Resources continues to enhance the preserve's ecological diversity, ensuring it remains a sanctuary for both flora and fauna.
Visitors to Mossy Point will be captivated by its lush, mixed ravine forests, featuring species such as American beech, white ash, sugar maple, tulip tree, and red oak. The floodplain forest showcases soft maples, black walnut, and green ash, while the highlands boast white oak and shagbark hickory. Mature stands of eastern hemlock provide shade for unusual plant species like partridgeberry, witch hazel, and ginseng.
Birdwatchers will delight in the presence of several vulnerable species, including the Worm-eating Warbler, Louisiana Waterthrush, and Kentucky Warbler. Bald Eagles can often be spotted roosting along the creek, and Spotted Sandpipers are known to tail-bob their way across the flats.
For those seeking adventure, the moderate to rugged terrain, coupled with a lack of established trails, offers a challenging yet rewarding hiking experience. The natural beauty and tranquility of Mossy Point make every step worthwhile.
Directions: From Turkey Run State Park, head south on U.S. 41 to C.R. 625 N and turn right (west). Travel through Annapolis and continue 1.7 miles on Annapolis Road (gravel) to a sharp left turn (south). Immediately after the turn, make a right at the first driveway on the west side of the road. Proceed through the gate, past a small house, and to the parking lot approximately 150 feet ahead.
Discover the wonders of Mossy Point, where nature's splendor awaits your exploration.

Reviews of Mossy Point
"Very quiet and out of the way. No marked trails or maps. Saw 4+ bald eagles. Personally, Turkey Run or Shades are much prettier with better trails, but this has the advantage that you won't see another soul."
"Mossy Point is a unique little nature preserve that is mostly untouched. If you want to explore a small piece of undeveloped Indiana wilderness, this is the place for you."
