"Poor customer service! Workers create hostile environment. I have been a customer here for 12 years. The service has become progressively worse over the last year. I went inside the store and pre-paid for $20 in gas. When I lifted the pump off, before putting it into my car, the pump registered that I spent like 10 cents. I thought this is weird there must be something wrong with this pump. I went inside and explained what happened. The two younger guys, who got hired on in 2017, were behind the counter. The one who told me his name was Dave was the one I was talking to. He said I'll refund you the money that wasn't spent, the $19.90. I asked about the dime that was erroneously charged. The other guy and Dave began talking to me very loudly and at the same time. i could not understand them when both of them were talking. I asked them could we speak one at a time and they looked at me like I had two heads. I explained again what happened because I didn't think they understood. They both started talking at the same time again. I asked again how did he plan to handle the ten cent that I did not pump. He said lets go outside and look. We went outside, in the cold, and Ishowed him what happened. I explained that the pump was adding gas costs when I was holding the pump in my HAND and that no gas came out on the ground. He said he understood and would give me the dime back. I asked him if he could put a sign on the pump so other customers would not go through what I was going through. He said no he wouldn't. As we walked back into the store, he said, "You are trying to cheat me. I'm not cheating you." I was flabbergasted! I said, "I have been a customer here for 12 years. Why would I come into a gas station to cheat someone out of 10 cent? If anyone would benefit from cheating someone out of 10 cent it would be the gas station. If you all cheat every customer out of 10 cent you all benefit. I said you owe me an apology for that statement. He did not apologize. He opened the drawer and angrily gave me back my dime. Both my husband and 4 adult children have frequented this gas station for years. I will never return and have shared this story with my whole family. None of us will ever go here again. I have taken the time to share this story because I care about Merrillville. Businesses that don't value the community and treat patrons poorly create hostile environments. This is totally unacceptable and given the wrong person Dave's attitude could create a dangerous interaction, plus whats wrong with the pumps? The only reason I gave it two stars was because of the prior decade that the service was good. If I based it only on this trip to Golo I would give it negative four stars!"
