Welcome to the Terre Haute Police Department

Located at 222 South 7th Street, Terre Haute, Indiana, the Terre Haute Police Department is a proud and dedicated force committed to ensuring the safety and security of our community. As an ILEAC accredited agency, we are staffed by 133 full-time sworn officers, who serve in various specialized divisions to address the diverse needs of our city.

Our Operations Division is the backbone of the department, comprising the Uniform Patrol, K9 Unit, and Traffic Division. This division also manages the Special Response Team (SWAT) and the Incident Response Team, which are essential for crowd control and high-risk situations.

The Investigation Division is tasked with the critical role of solving crimes and bringing offenders to justice. It includes the Violent Crimes Unit, Property Crimes Unit, White Collar and Auto Theft Unit, and Juvenile Investigations. Our detectives also collaborate with the Vigo County Drug Task Force, focusing on multi-jurisdictional narcotics investigations, and the Crime Scene Unit, which meticulously processes evidence.

Supporting these efforts is our Support Services team, which oversees the Records Division, Fleet Management, Training, Environmental Protections Division, and a dedicated civilian support staff.

We are always looking for dedicated individuals to join our ranks. Our annual hiring process begins with accepting applications from February through mid-April. Qualified candidates undergo a series of tests, interviews, and a comprehensive background check. Those who meet the standards set by the Terre Haute Police Department Merit Commission are ranked and placed on a hiring list for a year.
