Hammond Marina

"We stayed here for three weeks during September and October. The marina is older, the facilities are not new but they are adequate, you get used to the trains after awhile, it can be a long walk to get your dog out the gate to grass, the soot from the coal trains rinses off easily, the casino is smoky, there are no restaurants (except for in the casino) nor grocery shopping nearby. The best features are the lovely, helpful staff. Worth particular mention is Jamie on security who shuttled many of us to shopping, Tracy, the man who repairs the docks and is very welcoming and helpful, Caitlin at the fuel dock, and the entire office staff who had to deal with an Amazon distribution center’s worth of packages for those of us waiting to head down the river system and make room for all the Loopers. Also a feature is the access, via Uber, to the train station for visiting downtown Chicago and inexpensive and newer laundry machines."

"Worst customer service experience in my life! I launched my boat from winter storage and I dock in Chicago harbor which is about a 30 min drive from Hammond marina. I needed fuel and called to know what time they close, they tell me 4 sharp! I notice I'm 5-7minutes away and plead to wait a few minutes and the person working said he would try. I get there and 7 minutes after 4 and I see the guy and ask if he could put some fuel. He said he wasn't able to cause it's after 4pm. I nearly begged him stating that I don't have enough fuel to get to my harbor. He said I should call the office and if they say yes then he would. So I called and spoke to "Jen" supposedly the supervisor. She was so rude and heartless! Instead of showing some empathy! I said I would take care of the person for staying late or charge me a after hours fee anything just to get me to my harbor. NOTHING! "NOT MY PROBLEM" was her response. I had to leave my boat! How can someone be so callous? I would take friends to Horseshoe casino for shows and gamble and fuel up. Never again!! They lost any patronage and recommendations from me and my family and friends."

"Great clean marina. Friendly and accommodating staff. Likewise fellow boaters and slip owners. Good value and more bang for your buck than Chicago harbor's. Free dock box, water, electric, and wifi. Was a little surprised at the 3.26 gas price for regular unleaded. Thought it would be cheaper. Docks could use a little renovation but still overall very nice. Jet skis are allowed after June 1st."

"Hammond is a jewel. I hate to say it. Because its cozy, and I don't want it to get crowded. But I can't lie either. The staff here are top notch. From the front office to the fuel dock. Everyone is helpful. And always smiling. The amenities are the best around. And did I mention its a clean marina too."

"Beautiful beach that hasn't been swept away by rising lake levels. Great for watching birds and a pleasant place to walk a dog along the bike path - just don't take your dog to the wildlife sanctuary."
