"Since they don't want to answer their phone today, I'll make it public. Go to any office BUT this one. Yes, it's faster to use this office but I found out why yesterday. The woman at the desk that you deal with for your social security needs SUCKS. Her personality, her lack of policy knowledge, her inability to be empathetic in any situation. I lost my dad a year and a half ago. I got married august 31st. I chose to drop my middle name and take my maiden name as my middle name and add my married last name, or so I thought. The woman so RUDELY informed me that it wasnt their policy and that I would have to amend my birth certificate. Red flag #1. I argued with her politely and was met with "ma'am, our policies change everyday at 3pm, it's not in our policy". Red flag #2. She wouldn't even look at the policy. I left in tears. I called the Effingham, IL location the next day and talked to a WONDERFUL woman who was so polite, empathetic and helpful. Wouldn't you know, you CAN in fact do exactly what I wanted to do because middle names are not actually legal names. Now I am driving over an hour to go to the social security office that does read their policies, that does have empathy, that does have manners, that does know what they're doing. I'll be making a formal complaint with the SSA. Working in a FEDERAL GOVERNMENT entity and not knowing the policies but stating you do, is extremely bad for this already corrupt government. So to Norma at Effingham SSA, thank you. To the woman at the Vincennes SSA, have the day you deserve."
"Have been calling for months to get a question answered and I've yet to this day ever got a return phone call. Going in office is just as bad you wait for over an hour for them to turn you away."
"Most rudest people ever. They act like I'll don't know what I'm talking about"
"I went there hoping to have a name change after marriage, I was sent away with a letter saying I have to get my ID change before getting a new social. The ID place wouldn’t change my ID because they say I have to have a social update first, I’m very upset I drove an hour just to be turned down because she didn’t want to waste time helping me."
"Big surprise- they couldn't help me with what I needed (new social security cards for my adopted kids) even though I had the paperwork right outside their doorv during business hours. They said do everything online and mail in the paperwork, and there was no drop box outside for people to use. I'm sure a lot of this is useless government red tape, but I really wish that they would do whatever they could to help us locally."
