"My friends and I came after school to study and draw. In the upper section due to the teen section being closed for remodeling. We sat down next to an outlet by a window seat where it was quiet and we could work. There were two random pieces of wood on the floor but we didn’t question it. A Liberian then came and stared at us then came back asking us if we moved their stuff? Throughout the entire time we were there they kept coming to bother us. Very rude!!!!! They asked us if we were up to something? While we were sitting like everyone else I feel hurt by the way my friends and I were disrespected when we KNOW we did nothing wrong. We sat down like everyone else yet we were targeted. We will make sure to stay in the teen area the workers downstairs are very nice!… we aren’t positive about upstairs."
"It's the loudest library I've ever visited. People don't even bother to use their inside voices. It's always clean and they have good activities although I wish they'd enforce the adults only rule for activities designated for adults."
"This library has some of the best activities in the Southland. I truly enjoyed cardio drumming today with Mary."
"Wonderful place for family inspired activities, host a wide assortment of books, console games like XBox, latest movies and audio books for check out. The library was recently remodeled and looks spectacular with ample sitting areas with outlets for cellphones and computers. They have four private study rooms and a teen room for games and activities. They have a variety of programming for every age including card games like Biz Wiz, chess matches, yoga, gardening tips, and dancing. The librarian Christyn Rayford is extremely supportive of the community and creates exciting programs to suit everyone. The library is inviting. There's numerous services including computer usage, study rooms, Fax machines, and notary services. It also has quiet spots to read, write, or just enjoy peacefulness."
"Been going here for years. I've read through some of the worst reviews and to be frank I question every single one of them. Kids complaining that they came to "draw" and were approached by staff about being quiet, hanging around empty aisles and being asked what they were doing..... and a complaint about having a security guard because???? I guess we'd rather the police be called when the teenagers and homeless/mentally ill are disruptive. I've been to far more affluent libraries... ritzy Oak Park and Evanston all have security. They also both struggle with homeless and otherwise displaced people using the library as some place to go, which is not a crime but it does pose challenges at times. Point being...this is a good library. They have a variety of programs, they made recent upgrades, and they care about keeping it updated and relevant. The staff is not rude nor can I actually list anything to complain about it. If they were not up to speed I'd be happy to detail why here. The fact is...there's no legit reason to complain about it. I'd have given it 5 stars if they actually gut the building and remodel the whole thing...or start fresh. If you know South Holland, that won't happen. Your great great grandkids will use the same library but it'll be clean and have fresh paint with friendly staff. This is a good place."
