"We have had two homes built by GNE. Our first was 2001 and it was one of their stock plans that we needed to modify slightly. It was our first time building a new home and they walked us through each step of the process. They did not pressure us nor did they rush us at any point. The house was completed on time and as expected. We were quite satisfied with the final product and when it came time to move on, we did not hesitate to contact them for our next project 12 years later. This second home, unlike our first, was a custom plan that we had chosen from an online library. We did want to expand the overall footprint and make some small modifications of room sizes and positioning. They suggested we allow their architect to draw plans due to the modifications so they were completely within local code and specification. They again were there for us at every step but having been through this before, we dove further into the smallest details. Great Northeastern was very accommodating and understanding with each request. The home is amazingly efficient, well constructed, and again measured up to our expectations. Would highly recommend GNE to anyone!"

I had a very positive experience working with the staff. Any issues I had they were very willing to work with me to remedy them. I always get so many compliments on my home."

"This review should have been made 15 years ago when these guys built our house. Now We are downsizing, and moving on. We love our house and every custom detail about it! As sad as we are to be selling, we are filled with pride that the house is solid, excellent quality, and sound. Every inspection ( after 15 years) yielded high marks. "My wife and I have been so blessed to have our house built by Great Northeastern. We had been looking for a house for quite a long time without any success. When we first started talking to Great Northeastern, I was a little nervous knowing that buying a home was a big step. The thing that I loved about the staff was that they never pressured us and were understanding through the whole process. Not only were they understanding but they listened to our needs and modified our home plans the way we wanted it. All the additions and modifications were to our standards. Since living in our home, we have had family and friends over. All have been impressed and loved the design the minute they pulled into the driveway. The house is very well insulated, and noise from outside is to a minimum. The 2 acre lot they found for us is marvelous and the views of nature make us want to sit on our front porch as much as possible. If we were to recommend a builder for anyone it would be Great Northeastern. Thanks, Great Northeastern for all that you have done for us. We finally found the home of our dreams."

GNE called us and did not offer any solutions or apologies but did request us to modify the review to be less opinionated *** Approached this builder with idea for custom home. Was given several pre-drawn plans and told modifying an existing plan would save costs on architectural fees. Quote was given for price of home as shown, with allowances for various trim and other items needed for construction, and contract was to be signed on base price, which included preliminary, revised, and final architectural plans. An amendment was to be added based on options selected, or overages to allowances. Builder was helpful by helping find lots, and offering quotes for clearing, utilities, and add-ons like porch and basement entry, however quotes were made before plans completed. When we requested involving the architect early in the process so that these items could be addressed directly, we were again advised against to save cost. After initial budget was formed based on quotes, “conceptual” drawing received from architect based on details relayed by builder were incorrect. We modified the master BR layout, removed a staircase, and corrected items that were incorrectly drawn. In effort to move project forward, set up meeting to sign contract; before meeting, architect decided too many changes to existing plan, and new plans were needed. Builder wrote into contract, and was to present this at time of signing, explaining the costs “included” were for reprints of existing plans with “minor” modifications, not for the level of customization we asked for. When argued that plans were included, was told that our changes caused the change in cost, and it was our responsibility, that they would not honor the original terms because they exceeded their expectations, which were not communicated or detailed at any time. The added cost was significant. No solutions were offered to compensate for added cost. Would not recommend using this approach with this builder. Given other issues with the process, for example the length of time it took to get options coupled with our unhappiness with the lack of professionalism in handling this issue, we felt we couldn't go with a builder that we couldn't 100% trust to stay true to their word. We decided to choose someone that could customize our home with a bit more ease and integrity and that was not GNE builders."
