Peek Preserve is a vital part of the Maurice River Corridor, recognized as an “Important Bird Area” by the National Audubon Society. Our wetlands provide a sanctuary for a wide array of birds, including migrating waterfowl and raptors. Witness the spectacle of Red-winged Blackbirds and the majestic hunt of Sharp-shinned and Cooper’s Hawks during the late summer months.

Ecological Marvels

Established in 1992, Peek Preserve has a rich history, once serving as farmland and a site for oyster harvesting. Today, it stands as a testament to conservation, thanks to Harold Peek, whose legacy continues to inspire our mission to protect and preserve nature.

Please note that ticks and biting flies are common from mid-April to mid-September. Also, the Bald Eagle nesting area requires certain trail closures from January 1 through July 31 to ensure the safety of these magnificent birds.
