Lumberton Township, incorporated on March 14, 1860, boasts a rich history rooted in the lumber industry. Originally known as Lumbertown, the township was named for its early industry, where abundant pine trees were harvested to supply wood to Philadelphia. This historic connection to the lumber trade is a proud part of our heritage.
Governed under the Township form of New Jersey municipal government, Lumberton is one of 141 municipalities in the state utilizing this structure. Our Township Committee is composed of five members elected by the community to serve staggered three-year terms. The Committee, in turn, selects a Mayor and Deputy Mayor annually. As of 2024, our Township Committee includes Mayor Terrance Benson, Deputy Mayor Kendra Hatfield, and members Robert Rodriguez, Lori Faye, and Gina LaPlaca.
We invite you to participate in our upcoming events such as the COMMUNITY CLEAN UP DAY on Saturday, September 21st at 11:00 AM, and attend our 2024 Township Committee meetings held in the Municipal Court Room at 7:00 PM, with the exception of the meeting on February 1st, 2024.
