Wicoff House Museum: A Gateway to Plainsboro's Rich History
Located at 641 Plainsboro Road, Plainsboro Township, New Jersey, the Wicoff House Museum stands as a beacon of historical preservation and education. Dedicated to showcasing the vibrant history of Plainsboro, the museum collects and displays an array of objects, documents, and photographs that tell the story of the community's past.
Originally the home of John Van Buren Wicoff, a pivotal figure in Plainsboro’s incorporation as a township in 1919, the museum now serves as a dynamic space where history comes alive. Our mission is to ensure that history museums remain sustainable for future generations while staying relevant to a modern audience. At the Wicoff House Museum, we believe that history has the power to inspire individuals of all ages, identities, and backgrounds, and we strive to create engaging programs that welcome everyone.
The museum is supported by the Friends of the Wicoff House, a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation and promotion of this historical site. They collaborate with municipal staff to develop enriching programs and manage the museum's collections.
We actively involve the local youth through our Youth Advisory Council, which empowers young people aged 11-18 to participate in the museum's sustainability efforts by creating events and conducting projects. For younger history enthusiasts, the Junior Historians Club offers weekly meetings during the fall and spring, where children aged 6-10 engage in fun, immersive activities focused on historic preservation. Each member receives a Junior Historians Club notebook and t-shirt as part of their journey into history.
Explore the compelling story of Carnegie Lake and the rich legacy of Simonson Farms, where each decade unveils tales of perseverance and growth. Learn about the remarkable journey of Walker Gordon Dairy Farms, founded in 1897, which quickly gained recognition for its innovative practices.
The Wicoff House Museum, nestled within the Municipal Complex and beautifully restored through the support of the New Jersey Historic Trust, Middlesex County, and the Township of Plainsboro, invites you to step into the past and discover the stories that shaped our community.
