About the Business
Welcome to Alma Exchange Bank & Trust, now proudly part of Pineland Bank, a cornerstone of financial stability and community trust since 1939. Located at 505 South Pierce Street, Alma, Georgia, our bank has a rich history of serving the financial needs of our community with dedication and integrity.
Originally chartered on September 13, 1939, Alma Exchange Bank & Trust was born from the vision of local leaders Valene Bennett, Nathan Cohen, M E Jones, John Mullis, and J F Ramsey, who transformed the Alma Exchange Credit Union into a state-chartered financial institution. This marked a significant milestone as the Alma Exchange Credit Union, established in 1930, was the region's first credit union, created by eight pioneers investing just $5.00 each.
Over the decades, our bank has grown substantially. In 1981, we became part of South Banking Company, a multi-bank holding company that expanded its reach by acquiring Citizens State Bank and, later, Peoples State Bank & Trust in 1990. Our journey continued with the acquisition of Pineland State Bank in 1996, leading to a consolidated asset size of approximately $450 million.
In 2016, the parent company unified its subsidiaries under the Pineland Bank name, extending our footprint across southeast Georgia and northeast Florida with nine locations, including seven full-service branches. Despite these changes, our commitment to providing exceptional banking services and maintaining strong community ties remains unwavering.

Reviews
"This is Georgia's greatest still-existing contribution to Googie architecture, a space-age, Jetson's-like, mid-century structure meant to catch the eye of passing motorists, which is nowadays very uncommon in the South and most of the country. There was a twin bank in Sylvester, Georgia that was demolished. The swirly structure (now Pineland Bank) dates from 1966 and has a plaque in front with its history. Among Googie artifacts, this is one of the more far flung, but worth a visit, say if you are driving from Atlanta or parts Northwest headed to the Golden Isles or Florida's eastern coastline."
