Reviews of Boys & Girls Club of Nassau County - Roberts Learning & Achievement Center
"BEWAREEEEE! Samantha Daly is extremely condescending and likes to belittle kids by making them do manual labor. She also has no training on how to deal with special needs kids and has even made physical contact with one. (I was an employee at this location)"
"Previous reviews are for old management. I am a previous employee of BGC in Nassau. The Service Director Samantha Daly has grabbed a child by the collar who is on the spectrum after stating “when we walk out this room you better not bump me”. Also the service director often says things like “are you special? Why you actin so special?” Implying ‘special needs’ To children. She is in a constant state of yelling and disciplining the kids. It’s truly ran like a boot camp. These statements are made in front of children who are indeed actually special needs since classes have a variety of kiddos. She also will encourage a child to hit back when they are hit to avoid write ups. I have also witnessed her screaming at a child on the spectrum who was under the table trying to decompress as he was over stimulated. She screamed at him after he said he needs a “Dang break” she yelled back “WHO DO YOU THINK YOUR TALKING TO. YOUR GONE. YOU CAN GO HOME. DO YOU TALK TO YOUR MOM WITH THAT MOUTH. I DONT KNOW WHO YOU THINK YOUR TALKING TO” and proceeded to suspend him for profanity (for saying dang). I have also witnessed the service director call out a 10yr old girl in front of everyone for crying after yelling at her to go to the end of the line, she proceeded to call her out in the middle of multiple groups in the games room and say “I don’t know why you cryin. Yup, Go to the bathroom and Fix your face” (this was after writing up another staff member for supposedly doing the same thing) The service director has also made a child hold 2 buckets over trash cans (to clean them) but told him he’s not allowed to put the buckets down and wanted him to pour the water in the buckets. The poor child shook his arms trying to get the water out because she wouldn’t allow him to put one down to dump the second one using 2 hands. ALSO YOUR CHILDRENS SAFETY IS AT RISK! the ratio is 1:20 BUT TEACHERS OFTEN HAVE OVER 35+ in a room. Max I have had is 46 by myself , 6-7yr olds. The rooms are small and accidents/incidents are bound to happen. When ratio is talked about, Staff is told by Ms.Jamie and Ms.Sam that only the strong survive and it’s always been an issue and the job ain’t for everyone. BUT ENROLLMENT NEVER STOPS, so kids keep getting added to the rooms and then staff Is told their classroom management is terrible and get scolded for it. They also don’t believe kids should go outside daily. Those kiddos have been in school all day. It breaks my heart, their little bodies need to move. Also staff member Jaelyn Harding (Ms.J) has gotten physical and kicked a door in to another staff member in front of kids and has started a verbal altercation with that staff member in front of kids. Over all the place is more like a juvenile detention center, not a fun place for kids. My 7yo old just says “it’s to much yelling and I don’t want to be there” KIDS HAVE OPENLY SAID ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS THEY ARE SCARED OF MS.SAM."
"Awesome leadership skills of Mr. Patrick helps the club run smoothly and professional."
"I love the staff here. They do so well with the kids. It's so nice to get home and homework is already done and we don't have to do it on top of everything else. Great after school program!"
"I was actually shocked at the very diverse amount of different things for the kids to do here. The kids no what group they were in seems very engaged and happy. Lots of smiles and posituve engery. That staff provided appropriate feedback to the kids in constructive criticism, redirecting and affirmations. I love that they have high stardards in core values. It was nice to see that they keep age groups together and not mixing. The staff seem like such a great team and when questioning them they spoke very highly of each other. I would most deff. Recommend this place. Ps I also found out the tranport home and do pick up!"
