"My wife and I are members of a Real Estate Committee (REC) for two small family-owned corporations in Missouri. Since all the shareholders live outside of Missouri the initial objective of the committee was to search for, and recommend, a realtor to sell land and a facility owned by both corporations. 1. The team researched how to find a commercial real estate agent. 2. The team defined a 6-Sigma-based decision matrix based on our research and assigned a range of values to each of the criteria. 3. The team reached out to fifteen commercial realtors in the area of the buildings and quickly narrowed down the list to three finalists. 4. We then held team interviews with the three finalists and ranked them using the decision matrix. 5. We then presented the results to the shareholders recommending Randy Lewis with the highest matrix ranking of 357 points, the second-place realtor was at 222 points, and the third-place realtor was at 189. 6. When we presented Randy Lewis as our recommended realtor there were four specific reasons which set him apart: a. From our research the number one criterion for a commercial realtor was to find someone who communicates and is responsive. Of the three finalists Randy Lewis was, by far, the most responsive to our calls. b. From our research the number two criterion was to find a realtor who provides examples of value prior to signing the contract. We could write an entire paper on how Randy Lewis proved his value prior to us listing with him but by far the best example was that he called a government agency to obtain a report we had been attempting to get for several months, and he did this prior to obtaining the listing. c. The third criterion was if the Realtor demonstrates a positive vision of the property. Compared to EVERY other realtor we spoke with Randy communicated a positive vision for both corporations. d. The final criterion (because of the situation of our corporations) was if the realtor holds a level of ethical values that are consistent with our committee's vision statement. Randy Lewis's was the only realtor where his web site clearly stated an ethical position. Fortunately, both corporations voted to approve Randy Lewis as our realtor. From my background in Manufacturing one of the early American Quality proponents proposed a different definition of Quality; "We don't just want to meet the quality goals of our customer. We want to exceed those expectations to such a degree that the customer is 'delightfully surprised' at the level of quality we provide." In this respect Randy Lewis has left us "delightfully surprised" by the level of service he has provided. Time-after-time Randy has exceeded our expectations in serving us as his customers. As someone who has been an advocate of World Class Excellence in Customer Service since the 1980's our experience with Randy has been one of the best examples of such excellence I have experienced in over forty years.
