Iowa Department of Health and Human Services - Burlington Child Support Recovery Unit
About the Business
Welcome to the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services - Burlington Child Support Recovery Unit. Located at 409 North 4th Street, Burlington, Iowa, our local government office is dedicated to ensuring the well-being of children through the enforcement and recovery of child support payments. Our services are essential for both parents and children, especially when children are placed in foster care, whether voluntarily or by court order.
At our Burlington location, we provide comprehensive support and information to parents regarding their financial responsibilities during foster care placements. It is crucial for parents to understand their obligations, as child support payments contribute to the overall cost of foster care, initially covered by the State of Iowa. Our team works closely with the District Court and Child Support Services to determine appropriate support amounts as per the Iowa Supreme Court guidelines.
We invite parents to visit the Iowa Child Care Connect for resources, including methods to make non-income withholding payments. Additionally, our website offers detailed guidance on payment methods and other essential services. It is important to notify the social worker or juvenile court officer if your child receives government benefits, as the state will act as the representative payee during foster care.
Our commitment to equality ensures that no individual is excluded from employment or services based on race, color, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, religion, political belief, or disability. For more information, including case-specific details, please visit our website at www.childsupport.ia.gov or contact our automated information line at 1-888-229-9223.
We are here to support you and your family every step of the way. Please ensure you read all legal notices and respond within the specified timeframes to avoid any legal actions. For further assistance or legal advice, consider consulting a lawyer. Thank you for partnering with us to ensure the best outcomes for your children.

"ZERO STARS BUT IT MAKES YOU PICK ONE. HORRIBLE COMMUNICATION, STAFF IS VERY RUDE AND DOES NOT RETURN CALLS OR EMAILS, CASE MANAGERS M.G. IS THE WORST PERSON TO DEAL WITH. POINTLESS TO HAVE THIS OFFICE. THEY NEVER KNOW ANYTHING OR HAVE ANSWERS!!"
"This is the worst, lost a disability claim due to not being able to get Recovery office to call me back to get a proof of non-payment owed to me after a month of trying to reach this office. Automated system, nobody checks. Waste of taxes paying these people"
"If there is a lazier government office I wouldn’t be able to find it! Bare minimum work on cases and absolutely zero follow-up. Paperwork filled wrong and when you ask them about it they say it’s not their problem. The workers AND supervisors give nothing but attitude and act like we are bothering them. This is a paid service for children and families!"
"Apparently your phones don't work. Never can get through, have to call Ottumwa or another office to deal with my case because nobody knows how to answer a phone! My God, God forbid I want to pay my child support and update my info to make your job easier!"
"The worst child support recovery office to ever have to call. You're always on hold for at least 20 to 30 minutes also they say they started 8 AM but no one answers the phone till around 830 if you're lucky if I came in when I wanted to and started my job when I wanted to And there was a set time to start and I didn't show up till after the fact I would be fired!!"
