Welcome to the practice of Dr. Richard M. Tanner, a dedicated general surgeon located at 929 Spring Creek Road, Chattanooga, Tennessee. As a member of University Surgical Associates since September 2022, Dr. Tanner is committed to providing exceptional surgical care with a focus on minimally invasive laparoscopic and robotic techniques. His areas of expertise include gallbladder surgery, complex hernia repair, anti-reflux surgery, colon surgery, and breast surgery.

Dr. Tanner's journey to becoming a surgeon is as unique as his approach to patient care. With a background in commercial insurance, he excelled in helping clients manage risk and protect assets across the Southeast. Driven by a desire to make a more profound impact, he pursued his medical degree at the University of Alabama School of Medicine, graduating in 2016. He completed his general surgery residency at the University of Tennessee College of Medicine in Chattanooga, where he honed his skills in addressing complex medical situations with precision and care.

Patients of Dr. Tanner benefit from his compassionate, patient-centered approach, where each individual's health needs are thoughtfully assessed to determine the most effective treatment plan. His practice locations include the USA Surgical Specialties Building in downtown Chattanooga, USA Marion County, and USA East Ridge. He performs surgeries at Parkridge, Erlanger Hospital, and CHI Memorial Hospital.

Outside of his professional life, Dr. Tanner enjoys grilling, outdoor adventures with his family, and cheering for his Ole Miss Rebels. He resides in North Chattanooga with his wife, two children, and their Labradoodle, and is an active member of First Presbyterian Church.
