Located in the historic town of Ringgold, Georgia, the 25th Illinois Volunteer Infantry Monument stands as a solemn tribute to the pivotal battles fought during the American Civil War. In 1863, Union and Confederate forces clashed in a fierce struggle for control of Chattanooga, aptly known as the "Gateway to the Deep South." Although Confederate forces emerged victorious at nearby Chickamauga in September, the tide turned in November when Union troops secured a decisive victory in Chattanooga, prompting a Confederate soldier to foretell, "This...is the death-knell of the Confederacy."
