Independence Builders

"Independence Builders (aka Slade Sikes) recently built a custom home on property we already owned. We would highly recommend them to anyone looking to build a new home - whether on your own land or not. Saying they did an incredible job is an understatement. They performed quality work at a more than fair price. Slade is very easy to work with and get in contact with. He's very responsive to you. And he's one of the few builders in Liberty County who will build a custom home on your own lot. When searching for a builder, it was very difficult to find a builder to build our home plan on our land. Most builders we contacted wouldn't even consider building on your land. Many of them only built in their own sub-divisions that were under development. The few builders we found that would build on your own land either wanted you to select one of their own home plans or was so incredibly outrageous on their estimates that they wasn't even an option to consider. One of those builders was one who we were referred to by a huge majority of people we spoke with including friends, realtors, and people in the "building process". His name/company kept coming up by almost everyone we spoke with. We finally met with him. His "starting" estimate was nearly $150K higher than Slade's final contract price, and their quality didn't even come close to that of Independence Builders. At least one other builder's initial estimate was approximately $150K higher as well. One experience many people have with a general contractor is being able to contact them. Many general contractors seem to live "off the grid". I never ONCE had a problem getting in contact with Slade. If he doesn't answer the phone immediately when you call, he'll call you back within just a few minutes each and every time. We even experienced this with a couple of the builders we contacted when trying to get rough, initial estimates. I guess maybe they just didn't want the work. Anytime there was an issue in the building process, Slade took care of it immediately. Slade was very in tune with exactly what we were looking for. He always had incredible judgment when making decisions throughout the building process. One of the business processes we really like about Independence Builders was they made draws throughout the build process where you wrote them a check at certain points throughout the process for the work that was already complete. Some of the other builders we had met with wanted you to give them all your funding up front and they manage the money for you. So basically you wrote them 1 check at the start of the process and then 1 final check at the end for any over-runs. We didn't like that approach at all. If the builder decides to "skip town" you just lost all your money. As for the negatives of having Independence Builders build your home, I don't have any. They exceeded every expectation I had. Slade was incredible to work with and I highly recommend him and Independence Builders to anyone searching for a builder."
