Established as part of the Court Reorganization Act of 1983, our services are funded and managed by the state of Iowa. This landmark legislation, proposed by the Iowa Supreme Court and approved by the Iowa State Legislature, was designed to relieve property tax burdens and ensure equal access to trial court resources across the state. As a result, the financial responsibility for operating the court system, including juvenile court officers, court attendants, indigent defense, and clerks of court offices, was transferred from the counties to the state.
