"I leave my drafty CT home for the winter and have had pipes freeze twice. Once I was in Europe and the fire department called because water shorted out the smoke detector (thank goodness)! Every year, I searched for a real shut-off metering system that could connect to the internet. When I found Water Hero, it was a brand new company and though I worried they might not last, I jumped at the chance to install their system. It's now been 9 years, and I still depend on the device if I get temperature warnings or serious storms are forecast. I shut off the valve from my iphone until the risk has passed, then monitor the meter when I know it's warm to make sure there's not a burst pipe. "The Water Hero P-100 is an excellent product that provides us peace of mind from burst pipes damage (and our insurance company provides a premium discount as well). The unit also helped us detect an eroded toilet flapper that was silently leaking and filling up. This could have been going on for years, and was costing $500 yearly.
