About the Business
Welcome to the official website of the Lee County Coroner's Office, an integral part of the Lee County, Alabama Government. Located at 215 South 9th Street, Opelika, Alabama, our office is dedicated to serving the residents of Lee County by investigating and determining the cause and manner of deaths occurring under unattended, unlawful, suspicious, or violent circumstances.
Our office operates independently, with authority granted by the Code of Alabama, and is funded by the Lee County Commission. We are committed to providing our services 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, ensuring that a Coroner or Deputy Coroner is always on duty.
The Lee County Coroner's Office works closely with law enforcement and the Lee County District Attorney to decide when an autopsy is necessary, performed by the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences. We also provide guidance on obtaining death certificates and handling other legal matters related to a loved one's passing.
Our business hours are Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 4 PM Central Time, but please call ahead as our duties often require us to be out of the office. We are closed on all local, state, and federal holidays, but remain available for death calls at all times.
For more information on unidentified and unclaimed decedents, or to access our annual report, please explore our website. We are honored to serve all of Lee County with professionalism and compassion.
Please note that for ethical reasons, we do not endorse specific funeral homes, but there are many reputable options available in the area. We also do not facilitate visitations or viewings; these arrangements should be made through your chosen funeral home.
Thank you for visiting the Lee County Coroner's Office website. We are here to assist you with respect and dignity during difficult times.
