Frederick H Cossitt Library
About the Business
Welcome to the Frederick H. Cossitt Library, a treasured gem nestled in the heart of North Granby, Connecticut. Located at 388 North Granby Road, our library is a testament to the community's rich history and commitment to learning and growth. Established in 1891, thanks to the generous bequest of Frederick H. Cossitt, the library has been a cornerstone of knowledge and culture for over a century.
Originally housing a collection of 1,300 books, the library was expertly organized by George Seymour Goddard, a Wesleyan University graduate, who later became Connecticut's third State Librarian. Today, the Cossitt Library is an integral part of the Granby Library System, offering modern amenities such as WiFi, an online catalog, and a dedicated children's department on the lower level.
Despite its modernization, the Cossitt Library retains the charm and elegance of a bygone era, with beautiful cypress paneling and abundant natural light that invites visitors to relax and enjoy complimentary coffee or tea. Our Children's Department is a warm and welcoming space, complete with a vast collection of books and engaging play areas for our youngest patrons.
In 2013, the Town of Granby enhanced the library's surroundings by purchasing and landscaping the adjacent land, adding a delightful gazebo for residents and library visitors to enjoy throughout the spring, summer, and fall.
Whether you're here to explore our extensive collections, participate in community events, or simply enjoy the serene setting, the Frederick H. Cossitt Library offers something for everyone. We invite you to discover the grace and beauty of our library and become a part of its enduring legacy.
