"I first went to the AUUF in a place where I was feeling like everything around me was falling apart. I was greeted as soon as I walked in by a very kind and welcoming community. I had missed the church service, but I was more than welcome at their table to eat food and be fed in a time where I was struggling to eat. I wanted to go for the drum circle and I learned something new as many do when they walk through those doors. People can be kind. People can be welcoming. People can have hearts, passions, and many other beliefs and still believe that we as a culture, as a society, as humans, as LGBTQ+, as straight, as we are, can get along and be good people. I plan to start trying to go again as I lost my faith in the world and in people at one point. They have a place for everyone who is open to learning, understanding, and growing as people. It may not be for everyone. But it was the first church where I felt safe and okay to learn and explore who I was as a person."
