"EMTs that I dealt with during an overdose were the most downright worse EMTs I've dealt with. They were the most unsympathetic stating that "YOU SHOULDN'T DO DRUGS!" whenever I asked for blanket or to replace my vomit bag. When I accidently vomitted on floor one of them said something along the lines that if I do it again I'll be cleaning it up and not with my hands. They were making inappropriate comments of my vomit smell and my tank top I had on. I'm a case manager and outreach worker for homeless youth specializing in LGBTQ. I told them I work in the field and they need more training, more empathy, or a new career. They KNOW NOTHING about addiction, because they're reaction at least 3 times throughout our supposed professional interaction, to "DON'T DO DRUGS THEN" strongly implies itself that they if had more education or truly understood about addiction, they would not dismiss an overdose and say things to imply doing drugs that kill is simply a choice. It is a daily struggle. My mom was also dismissed at told to get out of the way, louder than necessary and absolutely rude, even after I began to wake up. They didn't say anything to my mom, and absolutely no compassion. The rest of my interactions woth any fire dept. are very professional. I asked to grab shoes before we got on ambulance and they screamed ,"NO!." I also said I'm sure your family has some type od alcholisn and addiction, and they said "nope!". They were incredibly cold, uncompassionate, no empathy, inhumane, making jokes at my expense, and unprofessional. During a crisis like an OD, you do not want these men taking care of your son or daughter! I was literally scared they were going to do something to me."
