Welcome to the City Planning Department of East Providence, Rhode Island, located at 145 Taunton Avenue. As a pivotal local government office, we specialize in overseeing land use planning, development project reviews, and a wide range of community and economic development activities. Our dedicated team is committed to fostering sustainable growth and enhancing the quality of life for all residents.

At the heart of our operations is the Department of Planning and Economic Development, which manages the administration of federal and state grant programs, housing initiatives, and other planning-related activities. We proudly serve as staff to several key city commissions, including the Planning Board, Economic Development Commission, Conservation Commission, Carousel Commission, and Historic District Commission.

Our responsibilities include periodic updates to the Comprehensive Plan and the preparation of the City’s annual Capital Budget Program. We meticulously review all subdivision and land development projects submitted to the City, ensuring they meet the necessary regulatory standards with the Planning Board's approval.

Our expert team consists of a director, chief planner, principal planner, senior planner, planner I, and an administrative assistant. Additionally, our Community Development Office, a part of our department, is a federally funded Housing and Urban Development (HUD) entitlement community. This office is staffed by a director of community development, a rehabilitation inspector, and an administrative assistant.
