Sally Weatherall Reservation and Viewing Platform
About the Business
Welcome to the Sally Weatherall Reservation and Viewing Platform, a serene sanctuary nestled at 8 Little Neck Road, Ipswich, Massachusetts. This picturesque park invites you to immerse yourself in the natural beauty and rich history of the region.
Perched above a vast salt marsh, our viewing platform offers a tranquil spot to observe the fascinating wildlife that calls this area home. Spy on elegant egrets and herons as they feed, or watch migrating waterfowl make their seasonal journey. The platform provides an ideal setting for photography enthusiasts, offering breathtaking views and ample opportunities to capture the beauty of nature.
Step back in time and imagine the rich history of this land. Five hundred years ago, Pawtucket women and girls gathered salt marsh grasses here, while men and boys hunted the abundant wildlife. The hollow legs of large shorebirds were crafted into tubes for carrying essential substances. Shamans collected cedar bark and boughs, honoring its sacred place in Algonquian culture. Travel even further back, and you would find Maritime Archaic people uncovering the marsh's riches as it formed 5,000 years ago, and Paleoindians hunting mastodons and caribou 10,000 years ago.
Today, a short, shaded walk lined with junipers, bayberry bushes, cedar, and honeysuckle leads you to expansive marsh views. Bring binoculars or a telescope to spot the active Osprey nest from April to August. Witness the majesty of Osprey adults and chicks, alongside egrets, herons, and various shorebirds from spring through fall.
For your convenience, the viewing platform is easily accessible. From Route 1A, follow the scenic route through High Street, East Street, and Jeffrey's Neck Road to Little Neck Road. You'll find parking for two vehicles by the property sign.
We extend our gratitude to the talented photographers whose work showcases the natural beauty of our park: Jerry Monkman, Dorothy Monnelly, Adrian Scholes, David Alden St. Pierre, and Neil Ungerleider.
Visit us and experience the captivating blend of nature, history, and tranquility at the Sally Weatherall Reservation and Viewing Platform.

Reviews
"So lovely, and to be able to see everything so clearly and it's so peaceful."
"Resident ospreys"
"You should plan on spending an entire day at the Sally Weatherall Saltmarsh platform. All jokes aside this is an important stop on your way to Great Neck. According to Historic Ipswich: The Sally Weatherall Memorial Reservation on Little Neck Road is dedicated to Greenbelt’s first executive director. The property is primarily salt marsh–a trail through a small section of wooded upland leads to a viewing area and an osprey perch."
"Sweet little perch to a nice view."
