Welcome to St. John The Confessor Orthodox Church, a spiritual haven located at 244 High Street in the charming town of Ipswich, Massachusetts. As a proud member of the Genuine Orthodox Church of America, our parish is under the spiritual guidance of His Eminence, Metropolitan Demetrius of America.
Rooted in the rich traditions of the original Christian Church established by Jesus Christ, we have maintained our holy faith through the centuries, guided by the Apostles and their successors, the bishops. Our church follows the Patristic (Julian) calendar, aligning with fellow "Old Calendar" parishes as part of The Genuine Orthodox Christians of America.
Our community is lovingly led by Father John Knox and Father Michael Knox, with the support of Deacon Father James Graves. Conveniently located just 200 yards south of the iconic Clam Box restaurant on High Street (Route 133), our church is easily accessible to all.
Whether you are a member of the Orthodox faith or simply curious, we warmly invite you to join us for our services and experience the beauty and depth of Orthodox worship. Our regular service schedule is available here.
Orthodoxy, derived from the Greek word meaning "right worship" and "right belief," is a faith rich in Sacred Traditions passed down from the Apostles. Our worship is a sensory journey, utilizing holy icons, beautiful chanting, fragrant incense, and majestic services to elevate the soul and draw us closer to the Divine.
As you step into our church, every element is designed to symbolize and remind us of our connection with eternal Divinity. The Orthodox Church is often described as the Bride of Christ, offering a sanctuary where we can begin our journey toward salvation.
Join us and discover why, as Russian Prince Vladimir remarked in 987 after witnessing the Divine Liturgy in the Hagia Sophia, "We knew not whether we were in heaven or on earth... We only know that God dwells there among men, and their service is fairer than the ceremonies of other nations."
