Vineyard Hill Reservation
About the Business
Welcome to Vineyard Hill Reservation, a scenic park nestled in the heart of Hamilton, Massachusetts. Situated between the renowned Bradley Palmer State Park and the Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary, Vineyard Hill Reservation offers visitors a chance to explore one of Essex County's most breathtaking landscapes.
Our extensive network of trails invites adventurers to traverse the property, with paths connecting to nearby conserved lands. As you explore, you'll walk in the footsteps of the Indigenous Pawtucket or Agawam people, who once fished these waters for alewives, shad, and Atlantic eels. This area is steeped in history and natural beauty, characterized by its classic glacial landscape of steep drumlins, streams, and boggy depressions.
Enjoy a hike to the south and take in filtered ridgeline views of the Ipswich River, or head north to Shaw Field, where local agriculture thrives. Across Asbury Street, discover 60 acres of preserved farmland, including Iron Ox Farm, a community hub with a trail for public enjoyment.
Vineyard Hill's rich history includes its time as part of the Patton family estate, beginning in 1928. Thanks to the efforts of Greenbelt and the support of generous donors, this land is now preserved for public enjoyment and environmental protection. Towering oaks, maples, birches, white pines, and cedars dominate the woodlands, providing a habitat for diverse wildlife, including deer, coyotes, red foxes, and a variety of birds.
Visit us and experience the timeless beauty and tranquility of Vineyard Hill Reservation. Whether you're here for a leisurely walk, birdwatching, or to connect with nature, our trails and landscapes offer something for everyone.
For directions, from Ipswich Road in Topsfield (1.2 miles from Route 1), look for the Bradley Palmer State Park sign and turn onto Asbury Street. The parking area is about 1.5 miles on your left. From Route 1A in Hamilton, turn onto Arbor Street, which becomes Highland Street. Follow this for 1.3 miles and turn left onto Asbury Street. Parking is about 1.3 miles on your right.
We extend our gratitude to the talented photographers—Jerry Monkman, Dorothy Monnelly, Adrian Scholes, David Alden St. Pierre, and Neil Ungerleider—whose work beautifully captures the essence of Vineyard Hill Reservation.

Reviews
"Easy walking trails, free parking, dog friendly!"
"Great place to walk around in. There are 3 miles of trails here. I like that the trails aren't completely flat. There is some up and down hill. All the trails are pretty well maintained. I saw a lot of different kinds of birds and also saw several deer."
"One of my favorite places to walk"
"Not entirely digging the new enhanced circulation. Some of these turns are obtuse"
"Beautiful property. Trails a bit muddy and mosquitoes early a.m. but we've had a lot of rain. Trails connect with Bradley Parmer State Park."
