About Us

Welcome to Hewitts Cove, a serene park located on Wompatuck Road in Hingham, Massachusetts. Nestled within the Bouve Conservation Area, our park offers a picturesque half-mile trail that winds along the shoreline and through tranquil woods. Enjoy breathtaking views of the Boston skyline, Grape Island, the historic Hingham Shipyard, the Weymouth Back River, and Weymouth Neck. The trail seamlessly connects with Creedon Memorial Park and the scenic Hewitts Landing Walkway.
History enthusiasts will appreciate the historic marker situated between the parking area and the trailhead, one of many markers scattered throughout the Hingham Shipyard. This area was once a bustling shipyard during World War II, where a remarkable mass production system led to the creation of 227 warships, including the innovative Destroyer Escort ships. Interpretive signs along the Hingham Shipyard Waterfront Walkway provide detailed insights into this fascinating chapter of history.
Nature lovers can explore the diverse landscape, featuring rocky outcroppings, oak and beech woods, and slate cliffs along the shoreline. The park is also located near the mouth of the Weymouth Back River, which flows into the Atlantic Ocean at Hingham Bay.
For those planning a fishing trip, please be aware of the Massachusetts Department of Public Health's advisories regarding fish consumption due to potential contamination with mercury, PFAS, and other substances. We encourage you to consult their online database for the latest information.
To access the trail, find the designated parking spots on HMS Halsted Drive at the rear of the Hingham Shipyard residential development. Follow the signs toward the water and access the trailhead by walking between two condo units. Whether you choose the ridge trail or the shoreline path, please proceed with caution as the footing can be challenging.
Parking is limited, so look for signs near #119 on HMS Halsted Drive. Dogs are welcome but must remain on a leash, and we kindly ask that you clean up after your pet.
We invite you to explore the natural beauty and rich history of Hewitts Cove. For more information about local Native American tribes, including the Massachusett tribe at Ponkapoag and the Mattakeeset band, please visit their websites.

"Great to see boat schedules increasing."
"It is a beautiful place to walk. The trails are kept up well and I would totally recommend it to anyone, especially if you have a dog! There are beaches here(Not sandy, but great for dogs). The trails are a little difficult, so it wouldn't be great for people who struggle going up hills or who might trip on roots."
"Just a chill New England cove"
